FUNDING Living Values Education Program

School
communities use various funding sources to offset the cost of
a Living Values Education Program initiative.
Although
grants can vary widely from state to state, the following list
covers many of the broad funding areas.
Professional Development
- Teacher Quality Research grants, available from the US
Department of Education (
http://www.ed.gov/index.jhtml), provide national
leadership in expanding fundamental knowledge and
understanding of education from early childhood education
through post-secondary study .
Social
& Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character Education
- Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character
Education o Federal, state, and local grants which help
support teachers to integrate SEL and character
development into their classroom work.
- Future Educators for Character grants, available from
the Character Education Partnership (
http://www.character.org), help support innovative
approaches for preparing new teachers to integrate sound
character development into their classroom work.
- Through the Sprint Ahead for Education grant program,
the Sprint Foundation will award grants to school
districts and individual schools to fund the purchase of
resource materials, supplies, equipment and software that
facilitates and encourages character education among K-12
students. With a national reach, the program is open to
all US public schools (K- 12) and US public school

Safe
and Drug-Free Schools
- Safe Schools/Healthy Students grants, available from
the US Department of Education

support Local Education Agencies in the development of
community-wide approaches to creating safe and drug-free
schools and to promote safety and discipline
- Federal and state funded grants, which support
programs that prevent violence in or near schools, illegal
use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, and promote parental
and community involvement
